We’ll soon be sharing our most-anticipated films of Cannes Film Festival, which begins next week, but it’s safe to reveal that the premiere we’re most looking forward to Terrence Malick’s A Hidden Life, formerly titled Radegund. Marking the director’s return to World War II dramas, this one takes a much different perspective than The Thin Red Line.
A Hidden Life follows Austria’s Franz Jägerstätter (August Diehl), a conscientious objector who was put to death at the age of 36 for undermining military actions. A set of new images have now been unveiled for the film also starring Valerie Pachner, Matthias Schoenaerts, and Jürgen Prochnow, as well as the late Michael Nyqvist and Bruno Ganz. Cannes also updated the initially stated three-hour runtime, which now clocks in at 173 minutes.

A Hidden Life premieres at Cannes and is seeking U.S. distribution, though it’ll arrive in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland on September 26.
