It’s been more than 16 months since Black Mirror fans have gotten any new episodes – if we don’t count last year’s Bandersnatch, that is – but thankfully, it looks like we won’t have to wait too much longer. While details are scarce, Netflix recently released a brand new promotional still for the show’s fifth season, which shows a few familiar faces in a rather intense standoff.
In an exclusive article published by Entertainment Weekly, the video streaming company finally gave fans a first look at Black Mirror‘s next batch of episodes. The brand new image, which you can see for yourself below, shows actors Anthony Mackie and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II staring each other down on a rain-slicked street.
If any of those names sound familiar, it’s probably because you’ve seen one of (or both) the actors on the big screen at some point. Mackie, who made his film debut in 2002’s 8 Mile, is best known for his role as Sam Wilson/Falcon in the Marvel Cinematic Universe movies, having appeared in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Avengers: Infinity War, and Ant-Man. He also starred in 2009’s The Hurt Locker alongside Jeremy Renner, otherwise known as Hawkeye within the MCU. Anthony will also be starring in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, which is set to premiere on the Disney+ streaming service later this year.
Yahya Abdul-Mateen II is no slouch either. After making a name for himself on Netflix’s The Get Down, he recently appeared in several blockbuster films, including Baywatch, The Greatest Showman, Aquaman, and Us. Black Mirror creator Charlie Brooker even joked about both of the actor’s ties to Marvel and DC films, teasing their face-off as “the Marvel-DC crossover no one saw coming.”
